I'm slowly starting to care less and less about the graphics in a game. When we have amazing looking games but horrible stories is becoming the norm, something is wrong

If I were to try my hand at developing video games, it would be in the JRPG genre, featuring traditional JRPGs and tactical JRPGs. They would be in Unreal Engine 5, and in 3D. The soundtrack would be synthesized as a placeholder during development, later to be replaced with live-orchestra or live-band soundtrack in the final version. They would be developed for PC via Steam. The console versions would come later.

Here's some numbers that work with the sky atmosphere default value. Height -636000000 and scale 12720169.176. I just worked out the percentage difference and applied it to the other numbers, wasn't hard really. Oh, I did tweak the scale slightly as I was getting black on the horizon.

Completely wrong about "motion design" and "cinema4D" - sounds like this youtuber is just spitting out something he read on his first google search result, like what lol? Source: 3D artist/animator for 15 years and this guy is just speaking right out of his ass. The brick texture generated from Unreal was not comparable to the substance one, either, because it only generated a mediocre albedo map, whereas the substance graph was generating all PBR maps. The rigging and animation comparing to Max/Maya was a joke as well - no one is going to "save a ton of time" by doing that in Unreal lol.

Every time there is an update in Unreal Engine it always being promoted as "A Game Changer" We had like 10 "Game Changer" update.

Did they change their mind about charging for use of Unreal in non-game companies? I thought there was a huge blowback about something like that.

This has existed in Blender for years now. If you're wanting to make animations, go with the best (a.k.a. Blender, in case someone is still confused). If you want to _combine_ animations with a game engine, then I guess Unreal is good enough (although making your own game engine is still better by a long shot).

Star Engine is much more impressive than Unreal Engine 5.4. It's not even close.

Excellent tutorial. Thank you so much. A side note for others, a very important function is missing in UE5 : locking object so they could not be selected involuntarily but remain visible. Fortunately, on the market, Gradess released an "Actor Locker" for free which works quite well. I wonder how the dev in epic did not include this major function...every other 3D software have it ^_^

Hi - do you perhaps have a solution to the problem that landscape materials with procedural foliage cannot be rendered via the MovieRenderQueue (UE simply crashes, even in UE 5.4)?

So.. I too am a unity refugee. LOL. I have a question.. in 5.4.2 you can add ninite to foliage, but distance culling is still there and I tried Foliage.ForceLOD 0 but it does not work. :| How do I turn distance culling off?

At this point i just want good games no matter the graphics. That;s what's missing.
